Save Energy On Earth Day
Help The Earth, Save Energy
Earth Day is a time to celebrate this great planet that we live on and do what we can to adjust our lifestyles to save energy. Any homeowner could probably admit that there are things they could do to cut back, either at home, in the office, or in other locations. Since you spend a lot of time at home and you’re more worried about your own energy bills than those at the office, home is always a good place to start. Here are a few energy-saving tips to help you get on track this Earth Day.
Turn Off The Lights
One of the easiest ways to save money on energy is to turn the lights off when you are not in the room any longer. When you leave a room, make it a habit to flick the switch off behind you as you go, even if you know you’ll be coming back a few minutes later. You can always turn them back on. Even this little change can make a difference in your energy usage.
Unplug Chargers And Other Devices
Did you know that anything that is plugged in is sucking energy, even if that item isn’t in use? Do you use the toaster every morning, so you just leave it plugged in all the time? Do you charge your phone every night and leave the charger plugged in all day, even when you aren’t at home? Instead of simply not using those things, unplug them between uses. Even something as small as a charger can suck energy from your house and cost you on your bills. These things are called energy vampires and you can stop them at their source—the plug.
Get A Programmable Thermostat
If you don’t already have one, install a programmable thermostat. If you do have one, use it efficiently. You can save money on your energy bills by setting the thermostat up or down a few degrees when you’re sleeping or away from the house and not there to enjoy the temperature. You can save quite a bit on your bills and you’ll never notice. You can bump the temperature up automatically at your normal wakeup time or at the time you usually return home from work. Try some new settings and see what works for you and adjust as needed.
Home Management Security System
There are a lot of security systems that allow you to manage parts of your home from the office, or anywhere else. If you realize you left a light on, you can turn that off. You can also bump the temperature up or down on your thermostat or take a peak in the house to make sure the dog has behaved. Home security systems can do a lot today and they can even help you save energy within the home.
Getting The Right Energy Saving Habits
The biggest thing is to get into new habits while breaking old habits. If you’d like more energy saving tips this Earth Day, or if you want to talk about home security with experts, contact Moore Protection.
